The Galacia Press have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have tabled a £25million bid for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez ahead of the summer window, but are set to be disappointed.
Uruguay international Gomez, 22, caught the attention of many last season when he scored 18 La Liga goals in just 36 appearances. This season, he has not been as prolific.
He has still found the back of the net 11 times in 29 appearances – but has added creativity to his game with five assists. Now, Mauricio Pochettino is said to be interested in luring him to north London.
The report claims Gomez “will definitely leave” Celta Vigo this summer. It also reports that Tottenham’s first offer is worth £25million, but that Celta want closer to £30million.

Celta are expected to take a stubborn stance on their star striker, given that he has a contract with the La Liga outfit until the summer of 2022.
TBR’s view
Spurs have Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente as obvious replacements for Harry Kane, who is currently nursing his second substantial injury of the season.
It is obvious that Spurs need a top-class replacement for Kane when he is unavailable – which is becoming more often as his frustration with ankle injuries continue.
Llorente is out of contract and Janssen is out of sorts. Luring Gomez to Spurs would be an excellent signing, but can chairman Daniel Levy be tempted to part with £30million for a squad player? It remains to be seen.
