Reported Tottenham target Demarai Gray could be set to leave Leicester City, with Brendan Rodgers admitting the decision will be ‘up to him’.
The former Birmingham winger has dropped down the pecking order under Rodger for the Foxes. And with just a year remaining on his contract, he has attracted admiring glances from Spurs and Jose Mourinho.
Indeed, the Sun claimed at the back end of August that Mourinho had held personal talks over a potential deal for Gray to join him at Spurs.
And Rodgers, speaking ahead of his sides home tie with Burnley today, admits that Gray could leave the club. (quotes via FourFourTwo)
“It’ll be up to him. He’s in his last year and he hasn’t signed another deal but, for me, I will always respect Demarai and what his wishes are.
“He is now 24 and it’ll be whether he wants to continue in the role he’s played here or whether he sees himself going out and becoming a starter. He’s a good guy, got talent and while he’s here we’ll look to help him improve that talent.”
Leicester are currently opting with the likes of Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes in wide areas, while Marc Albrighton remains a prominent player for Rodgers. Furthermore, they are also expected to sign Cengiz Under, further moving Gray down the ladder.
A move is needed but Spurs won’t bring what Gray wants – TBR View
Gray is 24 and could look to seal a move away where regular football might be on offer.
However, a move to Spurs wouldn’t bring that at the moment. Jose Mourinho has a number of players in attacking areas and is set to sign Gareth Bale this weekend. That, then, could put an end to any hopes of a move to north London for the Leicester man.
