Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Roma’s Jordan Veretout, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian outlet claims Spurs boss Antonio Conte has the Frenchman in his sights.

Indeed, Conte reportedly wanted Veretout at Inter, who he led to the 2021 Serie A title.

Calciomercato claims the 28-year-old been struggling playing under Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

He has gone from ‘unsubstitutable’ to ‘dispensable’ and his departure is now a ‘concrete possibility’, added the report.

Calciomercato also suggested Spurs could consider including Tanguy Ndombele in any potential deal.

Veretout reportedly has a price tag between 25m and 30m euro, or £20.8m and £25m.

The former Aston Villa man is a versatile, hard working, tenacious and technically superb midfielder.

Veretout, who has also played for Fiorentina, Saint-Etienne and Nantes, can play in central, defensive and attacking midfield.

In 2020, former Nantes ace Benoit Cauet told 20 Minutes: “He’s one of the best midfielders in Italy right now.

“He’s Roma’s hub, the leader of the team. He’s really exploded with his performances for the side.”

Veretout already has Premier League experience, so he wouldn’t need too long to get up to scratch.

In addition, Conte reportedly rates him highly and will know exactly what he’s about, from their shared time in Serie A.

Admittedly, Tottenham might struggle to land him in January, as he’s still featuring plentifully at Roma.

However, there could be legs in this rumour, particularly as Ndombele appears to be on Mourinho’s radar.
