Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Sunderland striker Joe Hugill, with The Sun on Sunday (23/2; page 63) reporting that Spurs are sending scouts to watch the 16-year-old.
Hugill has established himself as one name to look out for in the future. The teenager is already playing for the Black Cats’ under-23s.

He has scored once in four under-18 Premier League appearances this season. But he has bagged two in two in Premier League 2.
Both goals actually came in Sunderland’s 4-2 defeat to West Ham at the start of the month. And he now has a number of admirers.

The Sun on Sunday (23/2; page 63) reports that Liverpool and Manchester United had been tracking Hugill throughout the season. But it is Tottenham who now reportedly lead the charge for his signature.
TBR View – Another blow for Sunderland as Spurs chase coup
Sunderland fans have had to get used to losing some of their brightest prospects in recent years. And they will surely be wary of Hugill joining the likes of Josh Maja and Sam Greenwood in the near future.
Tottenham certainly have some exciting youngsters coming through. Troy Parrott has had a taste of first-team football this term.
But there still looks to be an opportunity for a young striker to come in and establish themselves as an important player in the club’s youth ranks.
And perhaps it will prove to be Hugill who gets that chance in the near future.
