Report: Tottenham keen with Walker-Peters eyeing Southampton exit
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the Premier League sides interested in signing Kyle Walker-Peters, with the right-back ready to leave Southampton in the January transfer window, according to a report from talkSPORT.
It has been a miserable season for the Saints, with Nathan Jones’ men currently sat bottom of the Premier League. They have a number of exciting young players in their ranks. But it appears that too many are a long way off realising their potential.
One of the few men at their peak is Walker-Peters. However, it seems that he may be looking to move before too long.
Tottenham keeping tabs on Walker-Peters
According to talkSPORT, he is stalling on signing a new contract. And he is pushing to leave the south coast. Manchester United and Chelsea both want the 25-year-old.
Meanwhile, talkSPORT adds that Tottenham are also keen on a deal which would see the defender return to North London nearly three years after he left permanently.
Antonio Conte’s side have had issues at right wing-back this season. None of Spurs’ three options have thrived in the role – though Tottenham fans are still awaiting the chance to see what Djed Spence can really do.
Walker-Peters has been superb for the Saints. But Tottenham fans may be a little split on whether they want the England international.
He is certainly talented. Dele Alli suggested that he was a ‘fantastic’ player during his time at Tottenham. However, some may wonder if he is enough of an upgrade on what they already have.
Reports from The Sun in the summer claimed that Southampton wanted £40 million for him. So he is certainly not going to come cheap.
So it would be a surprise if he ended up returning to Tottenham in one of the coming windows.
