According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing another bid for Giovani Lo Celso after having had an initial £35 million offer rejected by Real Betis.
The Argentine midfielder remains a top target for Mauricio Pochettino, but the La Liga club are holding out for the biggest fee they can get. The 23-year-old has a massive £88.9 million release clause, which Spurs may have to trigger in order to get their man.
Such a huge figure would represent a real statement of intent from the north London club. Should Christian Eriksen leave Tottenham this summer though, then the Dane’s departure could fund the move for Lo Celso.
Lo Celso impressed last season in Spain. He initially joined the club on loan from PSG, but quickly convinced the La Liga outfit to convert his move into a permanent one. Over the course of the campaign, he racked up sixteen goals and six assists in all competitions.
Lo Celso’s fine form at club level helped him to establish himself as a regular for the Argentina national side. He is now ready to make a move to the Premier League, and he could shine under his compatriot Pochettino.
Despite the hefty fee that Real Betis are holding out for, the capture of Lo Celso would have to be considered a good deal for Tottenham.
