Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke, according to Belgian outlet DH Net, with Jose Mourinho still searching for a new striker.
Spurs go into the final days of the window still looking to bolster their attacking ranks. Of course, it is a tough task for Mourinho.
They somehow need to sign a striker good enough to contribute to a team looking to potentially challenge for trophies and a top four spot in the Premier League, who is also happy with probably having a backup role within the squad.
Nevertheless, they have been linked with a host of names in this window.
And DH Net is now reporting that Benteke is on their radar with the deadline looming. The report notes that he could be allowed to leave Selhurst Park for just £10 million.
Benteke – who earns £120,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has endured a disappointing time with the Eagles of late.
The 29-year-old has made one substitute appearance in the Premier League so far this term. And he has managed just six goals in the top flight since the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign.
He is a player who has previously enjoyed success in the Premier League. He has reached double figures four times since arriving at Aston Villa.
And for £10 million, he will not cost an eye-watering amount. Of course, it is unlikely to be a potential move that captures the imagination of the Tottenham fans should he end up moving to North London.
But with expectations low, perhaps there is scope for Benteke to spring a few surprises.
