Tottenham are reportedly in the race alongside North London rivals Arsenal this summer for Manchester City defender John Stones.
According to the Express, Spurs and Arsenal are both keen on a deal for the 25-year-old England international.
It is claimed that current Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was interested in signing the centre-back when he was previously in charge at Chelsea.
The Daily Star has explained that Stones is primed for an exit from the Etihad Stadium with his days numbered, as Manchester City are eyeing Juventus enforcer Lenardo Bonucci as a replacement
Meanwhile, TEAMtalk first mentioned Arsenal’s interest in Stones back in January and stated that they were lining up a summer move.
The report explained that Manchester City want to make their money back on the defender, after signing him from Everton for £50million back in 2016.
Spurs have reportedly joined the race for Stones this summer, as they look to try find a replacement for Jan Vertonghen considering he’s expected to leave North London at the end of the season when his deal expires.
Stones was at one point the most highly-rated young defender emerging through the ranks with England and he’s earned 39 senior caps for the Three Lions.
But his move to Manchester City hasn’t been the smoothest of rides, as he’s had to endured spells in and out of the starting XI due to mixed form.
He’s played just 20 games across all competitions campaign for Pep Guardiola’s team and he would be a considerable risk for Spurs around the quoted £50million price tag.
