Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose this month, as the search for back-up to Harry Kane continues.
Jose, 28, has long been linked with a move to the Premier League as he continues to score on a consistent basis for his current La Liga side. In 130 appearances for Sociedad, Jose has netteed 53 times and laid on 13 assists.
Called up by Brazil in the past but yet to win a cap, the former Real Madrid, Santos, Sao Paulo and Real Zaragoza man has a contract until the summer of 2024. The Sun claim he has a £60million release clause, and that Spurs would have to pay that.
Jose Mourinho is desperate for his club to sign a striker this month, after Harry Kane was ruled out until April while Daniel Levy failed to replace the loss of Fernando Llorente in the summer. Jose is the latest to be linked with a move.
TBR’s view – Jose would be an excellent signing for Tottenham
He is the perfect Mourinho striker. In the past, the Portuguese boss has preferred a big centre-forward that is powerful in the air but can also contribute to play and score with the ball at his feet – Kane being the prime example.
But Jose is also very good in those areas, too. The Brazilian has flair, but also strength. Pace, but also aerial ability. He is the ideal replacement for Kane – if Spurs can knock his £60million asking price down to around £40million.
