Tottenham and Napoli are both interested in signing Mainz striker and former French under-21 star, Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to Italian publication, Calciomercato.
Mateta, 23, has been in fine form this season for the German side, scoring two hat-tricks already on his way to hitting the ten goal mark just nine games in.
Formerly of Le Havre, where he scored 19 times in just 37 games, Mateta is said to now be on the radar of Spurs and Napoli, with both clubs keeping tabs on the forward.
Mateta has scored three times for the France under-21s, too, meaning he is firmly on the radar of the national team despite their plethora of attacking options at the moment.
Tottenham could be an interesting move for the 23-year-old. While he’d be behind Harry Kane, Jose Mourinho has yet to really find a suitable back up and replacement, with Carlos Vinicius yet to make an impression.
Mateta was said to be keen on leaving Mainz in the summer, but has stayed put and has put himself firmly in the shop window with his explosive start to the season.

Little is known in England about the Frenchman but it seems Tottenham have their eye on proceedings. And who can blame them, given his impressive record this season in Germany.
Mateta seems to have bags of potential and in a young and impressive Spurs squad, he could well prove a shrewd addition.
While no fee has been mentioned, one has to assume he won’t cost absolute fortunes and that makes him the ideal candidate for Mourinho.
