Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Luis Enrique should Antonio Conte leave the club at the end of the season, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.

Conte’s contract is currently set to expire at the end of the campaign. Football London reports that Spurs do have the option to extend his terms further.

However, it would appear that Tottenham are keeping their options open should the Italian leave.

Tottenham interested in Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique is now a free agent after leaving Spain at the end of their World Cup run. The 2010 champions were beaten by Morocco in the last 16 in Qatar.

And Calciomercatoweb reports that Spurs are admirers of Enrique. They are ready to look into the possibility of turning to the 52-year-old should Conte move on.

It is claimed that Conte’s future is far from certain.

Enrique has had two stints as boss of the Spanish national team. And it appeared that they had a lot of potential at this year’s tournament. Certainly, they are going to be one side who really grow in the next few years.

He has won the league title on two occasions and the Champions League once, with Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola suggested that he is ‘special‘. And he is someone with a clear identity in mind.

That potentially contributed to Spain’s downfall this time around. But it may be easier to implement at club level, with Enrique able to work with his players more closely.

Of course, many Tottenham fans will hope that Conte goes nowhere. The Italian is yet to really get the best out of his Spurs squad. And yet, they find themselves in the top-four and in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But it will be very interesting to see what happens if Conte does leave next year and Enrique is still up for grabs.
