Tottenham Hotspur are apparently interested in the idea of loaning in Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Spurs have begun negotiations with the Spanish club regarding the World Cup winner, who has not had a good time since joining the club in the summer of 2018.

Lemar has made 64 appearances for Atleti and only contributed three goals and six assists, and is considered a major disappointment by the majority of supporters.

Having arrived for a whopping £53 million (Guardian), certainly much more was expected.

Lemar is currently out injured with a hamstring injury, but even when fit he was struggling for game time at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Lemar, who won the Ligue 1 title with AS Monaco in 2016/17, is supposedly also being tracked Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal.

TBR’s view – Lemar not needed

Surely Spurs have no need for Lemar, unless they are planning to sell somebody.

At the moment they have enough wide options in Ryan Sessegnon, Lucas Moura and Heung-min Son, with Erik Lamela, Giovani Lo Celso and Moussa Sissoko all able to operate on the flanks.

Serge Aurier and Danny Rose can also play as wing-backs.

Lemar was once extremely hot property – but it would certainly be a shock if Spurs went ahead and got him given his poor form.
