According to France Football, Tottenham are interested in signing Lille defender, Sven Botman, as Jose Mourinho continues his search for defensive recruitments.
January passed for Mourinho without much action. It is well known the Spurs boss wants a new central defender, with the likes of Milan Skriniar among the names mentioned prior.
However, France Football claims that Spurs’ attentions may now turn to Botman. The Dutchman, 21, has appeared in every game for Lille this season in Ligue 1 barring just the solitary match with Stade Brest a few weeks back.
That longevity and resilience is something Mourinho could have his eye on. Further, Botman’s age makes him the ideal candidate for Mourinho to mould into exactly the type of defender he wants him to be.
Liverpool were previously linked with Botman in January. Indeed, Sunday World claimed in January the Reds could reignite their interest in the summer, setting up a potential battle off the field with Spurs.
TBR View: Botman one of Europe’s hottest properties it seems
The 21-year-old certainly seems to be making waves over in France with his performances. Lille seem to be a breeding ground for budding Premier League stars, and Botman looks like being the latest here.
The defender does look quality. Assured with the ball but above all else, just a good defender, he would slot in nicely at Spurs.
At £40m, he is a bit of a risk but that is the going rate for top players now. Spurs, then, will need to cough up they’re going to land one of Europe’s best defensive talents.
