Report: Tottenham in pole position for £10million-rated Premier League star

Tottenham are reportedly at the front of the queue in the chase to try sign goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Premier League rivals West Brom.

According to ESPN, Spurs are leading the race for the 28-year-old ahead of this summer transfer window.

It is explained that Jose Mourinho’s side are in pole position for the English shot-stopper, despite there also being interest from Leeds United and David Moyes’ West Ham.

The report details that Johnstone could cost as little as £10million due to the fact that he’ll only have one year left on his contract in the summer.

Johnstone, who earns £32,500-a-week (Spotrac), has to be in the running for West Brom’s player of the season.

As it stands, West Brom are in the bottom three under major threat of relegation, but their goalkeeper has still been a shining light.

He recently earned a call-up to the England squad as a reward for his displays, and he usually makes a couple of eye-catching saves a game as he’s kept extremely busy behind a fragile Baggies defence.

TBR’s View:

If you look at how Johnstone has done in the top flight this season, surely he deserves to stay in the Premier League if West Brom are relegated to the Championship.

Sam Allardyce’s side need a remarkable finish to the season to avoid what looks like a likely relegation.

Spurs, Leeds and West Ham all have fairly settled number one goalkeepers in Hugo Lloris, Illan Meslier and Lukasz Fabianski respectively. Johnstone would have a big task on his hands if he joined either of them to become a first-choice option.
