Report: Tottenham in discussions with 49-year-old manager, players would be “excited” by appointment
Tottenham’s squad are reportedly “excited” by speculation linking them to Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino, with a fresh report claiming that talks have now started over a possible deal.
According to the Athletic, Spurs are in discussions with their former boss Pochettino about a possible return to north London.
The 49-year-old Argentine previously spent nearly five-and-a-half years as Spurs manager before leaving in 2019, and he’s currently in charge at French giants PSG.
The report explains that talks are ongoing with Pochettino, who would be “attracted” to the idea of a switch back to Spurs where he’s got some unfinished business.
Intriguingly, it is stated that he remains popular with the current Spurs squad and they would welcome him back with open arms.
His current deal though with PSG still has one year left on it to run though.
Pochettino talks will delight some fans
Pochettino, who never actually won silverware during his reign as Spurs boss, is still adored by the club’s supporters.
It’s well known the story of him losing a Champions League final and falling short in a Premier League title race, but the impact he had on the club was colossal.
He built a clear identity with his side on the pitch, and it was a group that were so unfortunate not to get over the line for silverware.
It may take someone who knows this group of players to get them back to their best.
