Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping an eye on Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

The Daily Mail claim the Lilywhites are considering a move for the 22-year-old hotshot, who supposedly wants to play European football.

Gomez has been in good form this term, scoring 11 goals in 29 top flight matches so far.

The Uruguay international, who has been likened to fellow countryman Luis Suarez in the past, is thought to have a £43.5 million release clause.

Tottenham want cover for Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente, with Vincent Janssen likely to move on in the summer.

Spurs may be hoping for Celta to get relegated to boost their chances of a cheaper deal for Gomez, who is also reportedly being chased by West Ham.

TBR’s view

Gomez has been developing rapidly since moving to La Liga in 2017.

His goals record of 29 goals in 69 games for the club is fairly impressive given that he is still only 22.

It makes sense for Tottenham to join the hunt for Gomez, especially since Janssen appears not to be in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Burly Gomez could be brilliant backup for Kane or even a partner for the England captain.

He is tailor-made for the Premier League and would be an acquisition to appease the fans after the club’s idleness during the last two transfer windows.
