Report: Tottenham Hotspur could have just £25 million in transfer kitty

Tottenham Hotspur may have as little as £25 million to spend on players this summer. That is according to a report from ESPN, who suggest the global health crisis could have a significant impact on Spurs’ transfer ability in the next window.

The cancellation of the upcoming NFL games at Tottenham’s stadium has only increased the club’s problems.

The report suggests that £25 million was ‘ringfenced’ as an emergency fund for potential player transfers.

It means Jose Mourinho could be working off a very limited budget at the worst possible time. Tottenham are clearly in need of a revamp after a difficult period on the pitch this season and holes appearing in the first-team across several positions.

At £25 million, Tottenham would struggle to sign anyone ready to make an immediate first-team impact at the club. For example, that is the fee Spurs paid Fulham for Ryan Sessegnon last summer, who remains a work in progress.

Instead, Tottenham will likely have to revert to free transfers and swap deals. But even those would likely include lucrative signing on fees and other expenses.

So whilst a complete revamp might be what Tottenham need, it does not look like they will be able to afford it in the next transfer window.
