Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the potential signature of Donny van de Beek from Ajax, but no deal is likely to be done until players exit the North London club.
That is according to a report from Football.London, who suggest Tottenham have ‘a strong interest’ in the Dutch international. They also mention the fact that the £45 million-rated midfield dynamo is close friends with January recruit Steven Bergwijn, which might help sweeten any potential deal.
However, Tottenham would need to move on a player to raise funds first. That would also need to be a foreign player, as they reached their quota for European games with the recent acquisition of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

So it would seem that Tottenham’s interest might not be enough to get their hands on van de Beek, who is said to be open to a Spurs deal and is a fan of Jose Mourinho.
One man who is a fan of the Dutchman is former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs were heavily linked with the player’s signature last summer, not long after a sensational comeback from spurs dumped Ajax out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.
“Van de Beek. Nobody talks much about him,” Pochettino told El Pais in May 2019. “But he has a dynamic in the game, he gets behind Tadic, he arrives, he works, he scores goals.
“Logically, I love De Jong and De Ligt. But the example of the operation of this Ajax is Van de Beek. I like very much. They have a young player, from the academy, in each line, that shows what the team is.”
It comes amid increasing rumours regarding the 23-year-old making a move to Manchester United after he missed Ajax’s friendly with Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.
“There have been some developments that made us decide to keep him out of today’s squad,” Ajax boss Erik ten Hag told Ziggo Sport yesterday.
“We will see what happens. We’ll make an announcement as soon as there’s some clarity.”
Tottenham, therefore, will need to get a move on to create the finances and space in their squad to battle for van de Beek this summer.
At the moment, it seems he is destined to head elsewhere. But should Spurs get the chance, it would seem likely they will also make a move.
