Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an official bid for Brazilian midfielder Gerson, after a week of speculation regarding the Flamengo stalwart.
It was reported by Goal last week that Jose Mourinho is a fan of the player and that Tottenham have been tracking him since December.
Now, the same source claims that an official bid has been lodged with the Copa Libertadores champions.
It is claimed that Tottenham made an approach in the region of €18 million (£16m) for the midfield enforcer. However, that bid has been rejected. Flamengo believe the offer is ‘very low’ according to the report and Tottenham would need to spend much more to get their hands on the player.
However, it is again reiterated that Gerson is happy at Flamengo and not currently looking to move back to Europe.
Gerson previously had a spell at Roma which did not turn out to be a success and returned to Brazil last summer to get his career back on track.
He has certainly done that and another move at this current time would seem like an upheaval he is not currently ready for.
