Tottenham Hotspur have monitored James Garner, with The Athletic reporting that Manchester United are now ready to sell the midfielder this summer.

Garner was one player United fans may have hoped to see get a chance this season. He returned to Old Trafford in the summer after playing a key role in getting Nottingham Forest promoted.

His form for Forest saw the 21-year-old stake a claim for an opportunity with his parent club. However, despite Erik ten Hag’s side’s awful start to the campaign, Garner has not made it off the bench thus far.

And with that, he could now get the green light to leave. The Athletic reports that Manchester United are open to selling the midfielder before the end of the window. And they want £14 million for the youngster.

There is plenty of interest. According to The Athletic, Everton, Southampton and Leeds have all been admirers. But interestingly, he has also attracted attention from Tottenham.

It is not clear whether Spurs plan to make a move in this window. Antonio Conte’s side appear to have plenty of depth in the middle of the park.

However, Garner will not cost a lot for a club such as Tottenham. And he can fill in in a number of midfield roles. So it may be an opportunity he relishes, particularly given the fortunes of the two clubs.

He has the potential to produce moments of ‘phenomenal‘ quality. And for many Manchester United supporters, it will probably seem baffling that they are ready to sell at a time when they are in such a mess on the pitch.

Garner may feel that it is a risk to join Tottenham when there is such competition. But getting the chance to work with Antonio Conte and potentially battle for trophies will surely appeal.
