Tottenham Hotspur are planning to finalise a deal for Cristian Romero today, after making a bid worth ‘close’ to £51 million for the Atalanta defender, Tutto Mercato Web report.
Closing in
In two separate reports last night, the Italian source had a big update on the deal which could take Romero to Tottenham.
Spurs have been looking to sign the central defender throughout the summer so far, but have failed to get a move over the line for weeks.
But the latest update says that the transfer has now reached the ‘decisive hours’.
Big money deal
Tottenham are believed to be set to clinch a move today, which could be worth over £50 million.

While the report doesn’t say just how close Tottenham got to Atalanta’s asking price, it does seem that they have compromised and upped their bid to ensure that they can get the signing over the line.
Tottenham’s offer looks set to be the second most expensive addition in the club’s history, just behind the £55 million they paid for Tanguy Ndombele (Transfermarkt).
The addition of Romero is expected to be one of Tottenham’s most important signings in recent memory.
The 23-year-old won Serie A’s Defender of the Year last term, and if he can bring that sort of form over to Tottenham, he could have a transformative impact on Spurs’ backline.
