Tottenham have reportedly become “favourites” to sign striker Callum Wilson from Bournemouth, who have been relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.
The Daily Star claims that Spurs could turn their attention to the 28-year-old and they feel they are in pole position to win the race for his signature.
It is understood that the north London club are keen on the England international alongside Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United and David Moyes’ West Ham, with the trio already recently linked with interest.
The report now explains that Jose Mourinho’s side are the frontrunners for Wilson, who has informed Bournemouth of his desire to leave and is valued in excess of £20million.
Spurs believe that the England international wants to join them and feel that they can get a deal over the line.
Wilson finished the season with nine goals in 39 games across all competitions, which by his recent standard is a disappointing tally and it ended up contributing towards Bournemouth’s relegation.
The English frontman managed 15 goals and 10 assists in the previous campaign for Bournemouth, which helped him break into Gareth Southgate’s squad and earn four senior international caps.
Harry Kane is always going to be the talisman at striker for Spurs while he’s at the club, but they need to try provide some quality cover and £20million-rated Wilson is someone that could hit the ground running by doing just that.
He’s a versatile forward the has the pace to get in behind and a calmness in front of goal, plus he’s fairly physical too and isn’t bullied by defenders.
