Tottenham Hotspur have had a bid of £300,000 turned down by Leyton Orient for young defender Dan Happe.

The Sun claim Spurs have been unsuccessful with an offer for the 20-year-old centre-back, who is also being chased by Leicester City, Leeds United and Norwich City.

Happe’s breakthrough came last term for the O’s, as he helped the club secure a return to the Football League.

He was a mainstay, making 46 appearances for Ross Embleton’s National League-winning side.

The 6ft 5in ace has been likened to Leicester defender Harry Maguire (via Daily Mail), and is viewed as one of the best young prospects of the lower leagues in England.

Orient are holding out for a higher fee for their prized asset, so Spurs will now need to put forth a more enticing offer if they want their man.

That said, Happe only has one year remaining on his current contract, meaning Orient are under a bit of pressure.

TBR’s view

Having signed Tanguy Ndombele for huge money, it would seem Spurs are ready to mix things up by raiding the lower leagues for a potential gem.

Happe has high potential, and could be a brilliant signing for the long-term.

Mauricio Pochettino’s track record in terms of player development is fantastic, and he would be great for Happe in his personal quest to realise his potential.

It is likely that following any successful deal, Happe would go into Tottenham’s youth setup before challenge for a first-team place.
