Report: Tottenham eye £45m PSG star that Pochettino tried to sign in 2019
CalcioMercato claim that Tottenham want to sign PSG striker Mauro Icardi, just over two years after Mauricio Pochettino tried to bring him to Spurs.
Icardi, 28, is struggling for game time at PSG and quite understandably. The addition of Lionel Messi has seen the Argentina ace warm the bench.
His stats are impressive. Icardi scored 124 goals in 219 games for Inter, and has 36 goals in 72 outings for PSG – despite only starting 46 of those games.
So, for a player of his calibre to be warming the bench, is obviously going to tempt clubs into luring him away. Spurs are keen on the £45m star (Goal).
However, Fabio Paratici finds himself in battle with his previous employers. Juventus are keen to bring Icardi back to Serie A football next summer.
It is an interesting one, given that in 2019 – Pochettino wanted Icardi at Tottenham (FC Inter News). Now he has him, but Spurs want to change that.
Icardi to Tottenham: Argentine will only join if Kane goes
Icardi is one of Europe’s best strikers. Ultimately, he will not want to be warming the bench at Spurs – if he is already doing so at PSG.
PSG is a more glamorous place to be right now. The presence of stars such as Messi, Sergio Ramos, Neymar and more; Champions League football.
At Tottenham, they lack that pulling power. But should Harry Kane leave next summer, Icardi will surely find it tempting to join Spurs.
Especially, if Nuno can take Tottenham back into the top six and qualify for Europa League football. Icardi could join, but only if Kane goes.
