Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shown an interest in the potential signing of Portugal international Pizzi.

That is according to a report from A Bola, who suggest Tottenham have been in initial talks regarding a potential move for the player, but have not yet followed up on those initial contacts.

The report claims that the attacker could be available for around €20 million (£18m) this summer with Benfica ready to sell after the arrival of Everton from Gremio.

Pizzi, who has 17 caps and three goals for the Portuguese national team has been with Benfica since 2013, although he spent his first season at the club on loan with Spanish side Espanyol.

Last season was his most impressive yet for the club. The winger, who can also play centrally, scored 30 goals in 51 games for Benfica and provided 19 assists in easily the best season of his career.

Pizzi is also represented by the Gestifute agency, Jorge Mendes’ company, an agent Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has used on numerous occasions throughout his career, although did not use him for negotiations to take over from Mauricio Pochettino in North London.

A move for Pizzi would not, however, conform to Tottenham’s transfer policy. The Portugal international turns 31 in October, leaving him with little resale value to Daniel Levy and the higher-ups at Tottenham.

That said, clearly Pizzi is showcasing the potential to be a late-bloomer with his sensational 2019-20 campaign with the Eagles. Perhaps, taken that into account, Tottenham could make an exception in Pizzi’s case.
