Tottenham are reportedly in discussions with their defender Japhet Tanganga about signing a new deal with them.

According to the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old is in talks with Spurs about a new contract and it could see his current £1,000-a-week wage rise to £15,000-a-week.

It is understood that the North London club have accelerated contract talks with the academy graduate following his breakthrough into the first-team, with manger Jose Mourinho really taking a liking to him and using him regularly.

The report explains that Spurs hope to wrap up a new long-term deal imminently and that the England Under-20 international could be promoted to the Under-21s age group for upcoming matches in March.

Tanganga has benefited massively from Mourinho’s appointment and has successful made the step up from the youth team to the senior group.

The defender has now started three of the last four Premier League games, which means he’s managed seven first-team games so far this season and it looks like there will be plenty more.

TBR’s View:

Tanganga has been an impressive rising star in the academy and he’s a no-nonsense centre-back with plenty of pace too.

The youngster hasn’t looked out of place when deployed by Mourinho and the versatility he’s shown too has helped his case massively.

He will want to be a long-term solution at centre-back, but he’s filled in admirably at both left-back and right-back to help out the side.

With Jan Verotnghen appearing to be coming to an end at Spurs, it looks like they have stumbled across a ready-made replacement in Tanganga for free and it’s imperative they fix his contract quickly due to the fact it expires at the end of the season.
