Tottenham’s senior defender Jan Vertonghen will reportedly be leaving the club in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old will definitely be leaving at the end of the season.

The Belgium international is out of contract with the North London club in the summer and reports suggest that he won’t be signing a new deal with them.

Vertonghen has been on the books at Spurs since he joined from Ajax in 2012 and he’s turned out to be a brilliant servant.

He has formed such an outstanding centre-back combination next to teammate Toby Alderweireld in the heart of the Spurs defence and they have been one of the best Premier League pairings in recent times.

The left-footed defender has played in 26 games across all competitions this season, but his time has started to be reduced by manager Jose Mourinho and his form has dipped too.

TBR’s View:

It feels like Spurs have reached the end of a cycle with their term and it’s time for some fresh blood to take them in a new direction, with Mourinho the man looking to steer them in a new way.

Alderweireld may be the sole survivor left next season from such a recognisable back four that was made up of him, Vertonghen, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker.

It’s safe to say that Vertonghen’s best days are behind him and it’s not a major shock that an exit is on the cards considering he’s out of contract soon.
