Italian website CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could offer Inter Milan a swap deal in a bid to secure winger Ivan Perisic this summer – with Argentine fringe player Erik Lamela going the other way.
Perisic, 31, has enjoyed a decent season-long loan spell with German champions Bayern Munich. The 88-time Croatia international has clocked up 31 appearances for Bayern, scoring six and creating 10 more.
Earlier this week, FC Inter News claimed that although Bayern had promised Perisic his loan would be made permanent, there has been silence since the end of the season. Perisic is still training with Bayern ahead of the Champions League.
It is believed that the agents of Perisic were weighing up a move to Spurs with doubts emerging over Bayern paying the £18million permanent fee. The latest report suggests Spurs are keen and are willing to swap Lamela for Perisic.
TBR’s view – Lamela for Perisic a good deal?
Certainly, they are similar players. Both renowned for their work rate and aggression, and ability to play on either flank. Perisic is three years older than Lamela, but there is one crucial difference that makes the swap a good deal for Spurs.
In 222 appearances for Spurs, Lamela has netted 33 times. Since 2013, when Spurs signed Lamela from Roma, Perisic has scored 65 times at club level in 271 games. Perisic is better in front of goal and that should convince Spurs into a swap.
