Report: Tottenham could sell four players to fund transfers, Eric Dier one of them

A report from The Times is suggesting Tottenham are ready to listen to offers for four players this summer, two of which may come as a surprise.

It will be no shock that two of the names on the list are those of Kyle Walker-Peters and Danny Rose. Both are currently out on loan at Southampton and Newcastle United respectively and appear to be out of Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans.

But the other two names on the list are Serge Aurier and Eric Dier.

Whilst Aurier’s form would suggest a sale is necessary, it would leave Tottenham with zero options at right-back.

Dier, meanwhile, is still considered a big member of the Tottenham dressing room.

The England international, who has had his battles with injury and illness over the past 18 months, has not been in the best form this term but has recently been featuring in his preferred centre-back role under Mourinho.

Mourinho reportedly wanted Dier at Manchester United in the past and when he took the Spurs job in November it was reported by The Telegraph that he particularly liked the 26-year-old.

But Dier is out of contract in 2021 and a Daily Star report from March suggested he would only sign a new deal at the club if he was given assurances regarding his positional play, with a preference to play at centre-back. Indeed, there have been rumours this week, including from Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, that Dier is actively in talks with Tottenham over a new deal.

If that is achieved, then Tottenham may indeed be considering selling the player rather than letting him enter the final year of his deal.
