Tottenham are reportedly holding talks with their defender Jan Vertonghen about a new contract.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are holding discussions with the centre-back about a new deal, as his current one is due to expire at the end of the season.
It is understood that the North London club are hesitant to tie the 32-year-old a deal any longer than 12 months due to his age.
But Vertonghen has a “key bargaining tool” considering that 30-year-old Moussa Sissoko signed a four-year deal last week.
Vertonghen has been in England with Spurs since 2012 and he’s only gone from strength to strength.
The Belgium international is a calming influence at the back that is excellent in defence and strong in possession.

TBR’s View:
Vertonghen is still one of the most solid defenders around in the Premier League and it seems a no-brainer to give him a new long-term deal.
He’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon and the experienced centre-back is key in the heart of the backline.
The left-footed defender still walks into the club’s best XI and he’s got every right to demand a long improved deal when discussing the terms of a new contract at Spurs.
