Report: Tottenham chiefs jet out to sign 19-year-old, but fail to agree price

Chilean outlet La Cuarta have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur chiefs have flown to Chile in order to thrash out a deal for Colo Colo teenager Ivan Morales, but the two parties failed to agree on a price.

Still only 19 years of age, Morales has already clocked up 40 senior appearances for his side’s first team. He has even found the back of the net nine times, with the majority of his appearances coming from out wide.

Morales’ rise towards stardom is also evident on the international scene, clocking up four appearances for Chile’s Under-23 side – despite being just 19 years of age. He has a contract at Colo Colo until December 2022.

It is believed Tottenham’s hierarchy travelled to Chile to secure a deal for the teenage ace, tabling an offer worth £2.5million for Morales. However, Colo Colo wanted as much as £4million for the versatile attacker.

Spurs opted against paying £4million for Morales, and a deal could not be reached for the teenage ace. It remains to be seen if the north Londoners will return for the striker.

TBR’s view – Spurs target Morales a hugely exciting talent

Morales impressed at the Toulon Tournament earlier this summer, and he would be an excellent addition to the Spurs’ reserve side with more than enough potential to break into the senior team.

Mauricio Pochettino has faith in youth and shown that over the years at Spurs, bringing through the likes of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker-Peters. But opting against his £4million fee will frustrate fans.

It is another example of how Daniel Levy is tight on spending, but surely if Spurs were willing to spend £2.5million – they could fork out £4million. Instead, Morales looks set to remain with Colo Colo.
