The Evening Standard have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is keeping an eye on the contractual situation of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos – as the player looks set to enter the final six months of his current deal.
Ramos, 34, is contracted at Real Madrid until the end of the season – despite remaining absolutely integral to Zinedine Zidane’s side. He continues to wear the armband, playing 15 matches during 2020-21, an injury preventing him from playing more.
The 178-time Spain international has also joined the exclusive club of players to have reached 100 goals for the Spanish side – surpassing 650 appearances in all competitions in what is his 16th season at Real since joining the club from Sevilla.
Nearing 900 professional matches for clubs and country, Ramos’ future at Real is in doubt – and the Standard claim Mourinho is keeping an eye on his situation. He wants a Thiago Silva to Chelsea-like deal for Ramos, who earns £225,000 a week (Marca).

TBR’s view – Ramos would be a stunning capture for Tottenham
But would he really entertain a move to Tottenham? Certainly, he has a strong working relationship with Mourinho – the latter having managed Real for three of Ramos’ 16 years at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Silva has starred at Chelsea since his exit from Paris Saint-Germain, proving age is just a number. Ramos is two years younger than Silva, and still has plenty to give at the highest level. Can Spurs afford him? Who knows, but what a signing he would be.
