Report: Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho ‘admires hugely’ Inter Milan winger

Eurosport have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, and could look to strike a deal for the Croatian wide man in the January transfer window.

Perisic, 31, has returned to Inter Milan and is playing an integral part in Antonio Conte’s side this season – following a successful loan spell at Bayern Munich last term in which he scored eight goals and created 10 more.

However, the World Cup finalist has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Inter. Mourinho has never worked with Perisic but is clearly an admirer, having tried to lure the ex-Wolfsburg man to Manchester United in 2017.

Football London quote Mourinho as saying Perisic is “fantastic in the air” back in July 2018. Now, the latest report from Eurosport states that Mourinho “admires hugely” the experienced winger and could try to get him this month.

TBR’s view – Do Tottenham need Perisic?

Probably not. There is no doubting that Perisic is an excellent player. His work rate means the fact he is 31 is immaterial. He boasts excellent fitness and determination, but also the ability to go with it.

Having a hand in 18 goals last season for Bayern is testament to that. But if Spurs are working to a limited budget this month, then a new winger is hardly a necessity. They already boast plenty of options in that area.

Gareth Bale, Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, Jack Clarke and even Ryan Sessegnon who is out on loan. While Perisic is a top player and would be a good signing, do Spurs really need him?
