Report: Tottenham back in for 'breathtaking' £100m attacker who's said to be so much better than Jack Grealish
Calciomercato reports that Tottenham Hotspur are back in the race for Napoli attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – who’s said to be so much better than Jack Grealish.
Antonio Conte will be eager to bolster his squad next month after his options were depleted by injuries before the World Cup.
Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-Min Son and Richarlison were all sidelined at various points, leaving the Italian short of options up-front.
Spurs have been linked with a move for Kvaratskhelia over the past few windows but the 21-year-old eventually joined Napoli over the summer.
The Georgian winger has been sensational since making the switch from Dinamo Batumi and his agent revealed last month that Spurs could have actually signed him for around £20 million.
90 Min reported in November that Napoli value Kvaratskhelia at around £100 million, but it seems that Spurs still hold an interest in the player after missing out over the summer.
Tottenham back in for Kvaratskhelia
Calciomercato reports that Napoli are closing in on renewing Kvaratskhelia’s current deal, despite the fact he only signed for them just six-months ago.
Luciano Spalletti’s side are set to give the winger a pay-rise in order to fend off interest from the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool.
The outlet notes that January will be a decisive month for the Naples side as they aim to keep their stars after a brilliant start to the season. Napoli are aiming to double Kvaratskhelia’s salary due to Tottenham’s admiration of the player.
The youngster signed a five-year contract with the Serie A outfit back in July but a new deal would see him extend his stay by another year.
Kvaratskhelia’s form for Napoli has been described as ‘breathtaking’ by Owen Hargreaves after his impressive displays in the Champions League.
He’s managed to score eight goals and provide 10 assists this season and he has adjusted to one of Europe’s top leagues with ease.
Former Serie A striker Antonio Cassano told Bobo TV that Grealish isn’t fit to tie Kvaratskhelia’s laces after Napoli’s clash against Liverpool in the Champions League.
“In these last three months, he’s been by far the best in Serie A,” Cassano said.
“Congratulations to Giuntoli [Napoli’s director of football]. This is a phenomenon. I saw City and Grealish can’t even tie his left shoe. Kvara is phenomenal!
“He defends, he goes inside, he assists. And now he plays as he wants and has consistency during the game that one does not expect.
“I hope for the Neapolitans that he will stay for a long time. But I think (Europe’s biggest clubs) will knock immediately to get him. I do not know where he can go. He is 21-years-old!” as quoted by HITC.
Tottenham have seemingly missed the boat on this one and it doesn’t seem likely that they will get the opportunity to sign Kvaratskhelia anytime soon.
Napoli are in a strong position after only signing the player over the summer and Spurs would have to pay huge money to tempt them into selling.
