Tottenham Hotspur spoke to Juventus to see if a deal for Matthijs De Ligt would be possible before his move to Bayern Munich, according to a report from Calciomercato.

De Ligt made one of the most stunning moves of the window so far. The Dutchman joined Bayern Munich in a £68 million deal after three years in Turin.

The 22-year-old did not always have the best time with Juve following his move from Ajax. But there is absolutely no doubt that he is one of the most talented young defenders around right now.

And it seems that there was some interest in bringing him to the Premier League this summer. Fabio Paratici knows De Ligt from his own time with Juventus.

Calciomercato reports that Tottenham made contact with the Old Lady about a potential move for De Ligt.

Antonio Conte asked for Paratici to sign an international level defender and all parties agreed about pursuing the youngster.

Unfortunately for Spurs, they pursued other deals once they learned of Juve’s asking price. And it was Clement Lenglet who arrived on loan from Barcelona.

De Ligt would have been an unbelievable signing for Tottenham this summer.

In fairness, Spurs have enjoyed an outstanding window so far. They have strengthened in a number of areas. And they actually have not spent that much considering the quality they have brought in.

But signing De Ligt would have been remarkable. He is an ‘incredible‘ player with such a high ceiling.

It would have been a brilliant signing. Many at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will likely be keeping one eye on how he gets on in Bavaria.
