Tottenham Hotspur have apologised to Son Heung-min for not signing Kim Min-jae after the forward recommended his countryman to the club two years ago, according to a report from 90min.
Kim has enjoyed a superb start to the season following his summer switch to Napoli. The South Korean has helped Luciano Spalletti’s side get off to a flyer. They currently top the Serie A table, and sit in the same position in their Champions League group.

But it would appear that some would not be surprised to see Kim impressing at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Tottenham apologise to Son over Kim Min-jae
90min reports that Son recommended to Tottenham that they should sign the centre-back while he was with Beijing Guoan in 2020. However, Spurs were not willing to offer more than £10 million for Kim.

Ultimately, it was Fenerbahce who landed him one year later. Spurs meanwhile, invested in a deal for Joe Rodon.
And it seems that Tottenham now regret not signing Kim. According to 90min, Spurs have internally accepted that they made a mistake. And with that, they have apologised to Son.
You can understand Tottenham’s reservations about a deal based on the fact that he had only played in Asia when Son suggested that they should sign him.
They would have probably felt that £10 million would be enough for a player unproven in one of Europe’s big leagues. And in Rodon, they signed an incredibly talented prospect.
Unfortunately the frustration over Kim has probably been made worse due to the fact that Rodon was not able to force his way into the fold in North London.
It is probably not too uncommon for clubs to have players suggesting that they should sign one or two names. Occasionally, the possible deals they do not get across the line are going to come back to haunt them.
