The Daily Express have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United both want to raid London rivals Chelsea this summer for veteran striker Olivier Giroud – and they can land the Frenchman for a bargain fee.

Giroud, 33, was strongly linked with a move to Spurs in January as his Chelsea contract expired this summer. However, he remained st Stamford Bridge and has since impressed – earning another 12 months at Chelsea.

But Chelsea could still cash in on the striker as they close in on a deal to sign Germany international Timo Werner, ahead of Liverpool. Giroud is said to be earning an enormous £110,000 a week, as per the Express.

The report states that Jose Mourinho is still keen to bring the 2018 World Cup winner to north London – while West Ham are linked again. The new report states that Tottenham and West Ham can sign Giroud for just £7million.

Amid reports Tottenham wanted Giroud in January, former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara claimed he would be a good fit for his old side – as per Sky Sports: “I think Giroud would be a good fit [for Tottenham].”

TBR’s view – £7m for Giroud is a cheap, low-risk signing

One that Tottenham are crying out for. Spurs’ problem, which has been made repeatedly clear by pundits and supporters alike, is that they are unable to attract strikers to the club with Harry Kane first choice.

It means any striker that moves to Spurs is accepting that they are happy to play back-up, be a plan B. At 33 years of age, Giroud may be open to such a move – given he would hardly be able to play week in, week out anyway.

For just £7million, and a decent pay cheque, Spurs would finally rid themselves of an issue that has caused problems since Fernando Llorente departed.
