CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are both interested in raiding Chelsea for striker Olivier Giroud – but face competition from Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan, and David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
Giroud, 34, came off the bench on Tuesday night to help Chelsea earn a crucial Champions League win over French club Rennes. It was just his second goal this season in his eighth appearance this term – though Giroud has started only one of those games.
The former Arsenal striker – who joined Chelsea almost three years ago for £18million (Guardian) – has now netted 30 goals in 96 appearances for the Blues. Frank Lampard has made it clear he is keen to keep Giroud.
However, the France striker is in the final year of his contract and he may want to move in January in order to get game time and secure his Euro 2021 slot. The report says West Ham, Tottenham, Inter Milan, Inter Miami and PSG are all interested.
TBR’s view – Should Giroud leave Chelsea?
If Giroud was to leave, he needs to join a European club where game time is guaranteed in order to show Didier Deschamps why he deserves a spot. It must be said, he remains a crucial part of the France side, despite his current lack of game time.
Harry Kane will start for Spurs, Romelu Lukaku will start for Inter Milan, Mauro Icardi will start for PSG. A move to the MLS would be a tricky one for Deschamps, but Giroud may even struggle for game time there – with Gonzalo Higuain first choice.
That means either staying at Chelsea or a move to West Ham would be ideal for Giroud.
