Report: Tottenham and West Ham eye Etienne Green
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are amongst the clubs monitoring England under-21 goalkeeper Etienne Green, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
Both Spurs and the Hammers will have to give some thought to their goalkeeping options in the coming months.
Hugo Lloris’s contract expires next year. Pierluigi Gollini meanwhile, is only in North London on loan for the time-being.
West Ham also have a goalkeeper on loan in Alphonse Areola. And 36-year-old Lukasz Fabianski will be a free agent next year as things stand.
TEAMtalk reports that both clubs are ready to make a move for the 21-year-old, who has started eight times in Ligue 1 this season.
He is actually yet to keep a clean sheet at Saint-Etienne this term. But he did help England’s under-21s to a 1-0 win over Andorra this week.
Could Tottenham target Etienne Green follow in Lloris’ footsteps after switching international allegiances?
Green was born in England. But he has lived in France for most of his life to date. And with that, he was included in France’s under-21 squad for the knockout stages of this summer’s European Championships.
Of course, at that stage, his ultimate goal may have been to follow in Lloris’ footsteps and play for Les Bleus in the future.
He has now switched international allegiances. But perhaps he may now emulate Lloris in another way with the reports that Tottenham want to sign him.
He is playing regularly in France’s top flight. So he may perhaps want some assurances over game-time before he agrees to join the likes of Spurs or West Ham.
