According to reports from France, Tottenham and Newcastle have been actively sought out as potential clubs for PSG forward Mauro Icardi to sign for.
Foot Mercato claims that Icardi is being offered around Europe. He is looking to leave PSG, after a poor run of form and some personal issues have held his progress back. The report does claim a return to Italy is most likely. However, both the Toon and Spurs have been offered Icardi as well.
Icardi’s name is nothing brand new, however, when it comes to both Tottenham and Newcastle. Back in October, we reported on TBR how the pair had shown an interest in the forward. For PSG, they would likely take a loss on a player they paid £51m for in 2020.

While Icardi’s form has been patchy this season at best, his overall career record is fine. He’s scored 201 goals in 368 games (Transfermarkt), including an impressive 124 while at Inter Milan.
Both Spurs and Newcastle are expected to be busy in January. Antonio Conte is hoping for new players, while Eddie Howe is also set to be backed by PIF.
TBR’s View: Icardi likely to go to Italy but someone to keep tabs on
It’s pretty plain to see that Icardi sees his life and career back in Italy. He and his wife have been more than vocal about this sort of thing over recent months.
However, if a move doesn’t materialise, then Icardi is certainly a player for both Tottenham and Newcastle to keep a close eye on. He’s a proven striker, with his spell at PSG just a blip in an otherwise fine career.
January is going to be exciting for Newcastle and Spurs fans. There’s bound to be players being linked left, right, and centre. And if one of them is Mauro Icardi, then that might be a hint at the quality of player being looked at.
