Spanish outlet TodoFichajes have claimed that both Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco have now opened talks with the agent of Atletico Madrid giant Stefan Savic – and he could be available on the cheap in the coming months.
Last week, the same outlet claimed that Tottenham were interested in raiding Diego Simeone’s side for the ex-Manchester City defender. Savic, 29, is said to be keen on such a move as Spurs look to bring in a replacement for Jan Vertonghen.
It is believed that Spurs can land the colossal centre-back for just £13.5million – which is a bargain for a player that played a crucial part in defeating Liverpool in the Champions League knock-out rounds earlier this year.
The new report has now stated that Tottenham are in talks with Savic’s agent ahead of the summer window, but they have been met by another side in their bid to land Savic – in the form of AS Monaco.
TBR’s view – Savic would be a very good Tottenham purchase
Yes, Savic struggled during the 2011-12 season at Manchester City but he is a very different player to that now. Much more experienced, Savic has impressed at Atletico Madrid so much, that he has clocked up more than 150 appearances for Atleti.
Although not the best of central defenders in European football, he is powerful, strong in the air, a leader and decent in possession. Experienced in Europe and boasting the defensive-mindedness of Simeone, he is a bargain at £13.5million.
