German newspaper Bild have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are both in the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Zakaria, 22, already boasts a burgeoning reputation in the German Bundesliga after joining Gladbach in the summer of 2017 from Swiss side Young Boys. Clocking up 67 matches for Young Boys, he joined Gladbach.
He has since played 75 times for Gladbach, helping the German side keep 22 clean sheets and even scoring seven goals. The 24-time Switzerland international is able to play in midfield or at centre-back, naturally a holding midfielder.
The report claims Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are the two most-interested parties, but that Manchester United, Tottenhan and Inter Milan are also keen. It is believed Gladbach want £43million for his signature.

TBR’s view – Manchester United need Zakaria more than Spurs
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side need Zakaria more than Tottenham, and that is down to the lack of quality in Manchester United’s midfield right now. Nemanja Matic ageing, while Fred has flopped since joining the club.
Spurs have an excellent array of holding midfielders in new signing Tanguy Ndombele, England cap Harry Winks and even Eric Dier as back-up. Victor Wanyama is likely to be sold, but Spurs still have much better options than United in that area.
