Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are reportedly set to make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips next summer, after the 24-year-old’s impressive start to life in the Premier League.
The combative midfielder has been in fine form for Leeds so far this season and has recently earned his first England caps under Gareth Southgate.
But his performances at Elland Road have two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs taking an interest, according to a report from The Mirror.
They suggest that Jose Mourinho has been impressed by Phillips and is looking for a new defensive midfielder with Moussa Sissoko advancing in age and Eric Dier transitioning back to centre-back.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have doubts over the long-term future of Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman’s contract is winding down and Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is interested in a reunion with his Dutch national team dynamo at the Nou Camp.
Phillips is said to be considered a perfect match for the way both clubs want to play, but would be valued at £50 million if either club came knocking.
Leeds United fans know they will have to fight off interest in Phillips for the next few years and that should come as no surprise given his excellent form.
However, should Leeds remain competitive in the Premier League, many fans will hope the hometown hero will remain in West Yorkshire.
