Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that both Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are interested in signing FC Porto wonderkid Fabio Silva, who has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo at that age.

Silva, 17, has broken into the senior Porto side – clocking up 18 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants this season. He has started five, but has still managed to score three goals and create two more.

Naturally a striker, the Portugal under-19 international can also play as a number 10. At 6ft 1in, he is more than adept at holding the ball up and playing as a target man – but is just as good with his feet in terms of creating.

The report claims Spurs and Juve are keen, while both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have considered a move. His release clause is a whopping £107million, but the report does state that if Porto sell this summer – they will not get half of that.

Sporting Lisbon legend Manuel Fernandes told Goal Silva is mirroring Ronaldo’s potential at 17: “When Ronaldo was 17, he played as a centre-forward for Sporting’s youth teams. He did things that I’m now seeing a boy from Porto do, Fabio Silva.”

TBR’s view – Would Tottenham spend so big, on a player so young?

Probably not. Though Spurs’ recent signings have been between 20 and 23, such as Tanguy Ndombele, Steven Bergwijn, Gio Lo Celso, Gedson Fernandes and others, 17 is much younger than the recent transfer model imposed by the under-fire Daniel Levy.

For Silva, his best move is to remain at Porto for at least another season. He needs more game time under his belt, and try to become a regular in the starting line-up. But if Porto are keen to sell, Spurs could do worse than landing Silva.
