Report: Tottenham and Everton-linked manager Maurizio Sarri set to join new club on Monday
Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim Maurizio Sarri will replace Simone Inzaghi at Lazio on Monday. The ex-Chelsea gaffer is a reported target for both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton. But, it is believed Sarri will join Lazio, and a deal is expected to happen on Monday.
Sarri, 62, has been out of work since leaving Juventus at the end of the 2019-20 season. Andrea Pirlo came in for Sarri, despite a Serie A title. Pirlo is now out of the door, replaced by Max Allegri, after finishing fourth. Sarri is a reported target for numerous clubs, including Tottenham and Everton.
Numerous Italian clubs have changed their manager. Sarri has been in the mix, with Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Napoli and more all linked with Sarri at one point or another. Antonio Conte left Inter and the Nerazzuri brought in Inzaghi – which has seen Lazio move swiftly to hire Sarri.
Tottenham and Everton running out of time – as Sarri joins Lazio
Meanwhile, Tottenham tried to get Conte after his Inter exit – but a move broke down over the weekend. Everton desperately need to make an appointment too, with Carlo Ancelotti moving to Real Madrid. CalcioMercato claim Everton were keen on Sarri, after Ancelotti’s exit.
Another report from CalcioMercato says Tottenham have also spoken to Sarri. At this moment in time, neither club look close to making an appointment and losing out on Sarri is another managerial blow.
