Report: Tottenham and Aston Villa named on list of interested clubs in £17m race
Turkish newspaper Fotospor have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are two clubs on a list of sides said to be interested in Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir – with Liverpool previously linked for the stopper.
Cakir, 25, has kept 12 clean sheets in 33 Turkish SuperLig games this season – surpassing 100 outings for the Turkish club. He has even been given the captain’s armband, and broken into Turkey’s national side and earning seven caps.
Sabah claimed in March that Liverpool wanted to sign Cakir, and now, Fotospor report that nine teams are in pursuit of the Turkish stopper – including Tottenham and Aston Villa. It is believed a fee of £17million is required.
Roma, Napoli, Atalanta, Dortmund, Leipzig, Lille and PSV are also keen on Cakir along with the Premier League trio. He has a contract with Trabzonspor until the summer of 2024, but he is expected to move in the coming months.

TBR’s view – Cakir would be a top signing for Tottenham
Tottenham need a goalkeeper this summer, even if Hugo Lloris remains at the club. The Spurs skipper is becoming more and more culpable for mistakes at the back – and he has been linked with both PSG and OGC Nice.
A goalkeeper is required at Spurs, but less so at Villa and Liverpool. The Reds have decent cover for Alisson, though perhaps they want a better number two – while Villa boast Emi Martinez and Tom Heaton, two excellent stoppers.
Spurs need him most, and it would be a decent addition to a side that needs strengthening.
