Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are both on red alert after AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini’s agent has travelled to London.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season at Roma, having a hand in 11 goals for the Italian giants. The Italy international has scored four goals and laid on seven assists.
It is believed that Pellegrini, who has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, has a release clause in his contract worth just £31million. His contract still has three years left to run until the summer of 2022.
The report claims Pellegrini wants Champions League football and is keen on a move to Tottenham, but he would also be interested in a transfer to Arsenal despite their inability to qualify for the competition.
Inter Milan are also said to be interested, while Roma are keen to tie down Pellegrini to a longer contract.
Both Arsenal and Spurs need central midfielders. Tottenham have failed to replace the loss of Mousa Dembele, who transferred to Guangzhou R&F last January. Pellegrini would certainly replace him.
Arsenal, meanwhile, could do with another in the middle of the park. That is because Aaron Ramsey is moving to Italian champions Juventus, while Mo Elneny could be set to leave the club this summer, too.
Pellegrini’s eye for goal and excellent stamina is combined with an intricate array of passing and footballing intelligence that would certainly boost both north London clubs.
