Report: Tottenham and Arsenal emerge as options for Liverpool defender

Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi have claimed that Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is a target for Serie A side Lazio this summer, but Tottenham and Arsenal could also become interested in landing the Croatian giant.

Lovren, 30, has been linked with the exit door at Anfield during the past two transfer windows. At the beginning of the campaign, he was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan – but Liverpool opted to keep the former Lyon and Southampton star.

With both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip suffering injuries this season, it has turned out to be a good move. Lovren has played 14 times in all competitions for Liverpool. He has played more than the minimum five league games to pick up a medal.

Lazio, who boast former Liverpool players Luis Alberto and Lucas Leiva, are keen to sign Lovren. His asking price is £18million, and his wages are around £85,000 a week – with his current deal expiring in 2021 (LLSN).

But the report also claims that Milan remain keen, as do former side Lyon. Tottenham and Arsenal are also mentioned as candidates to sign Lovren, who is now expected to leave Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window.

TBR’s view – Is Lovren a good option for each north London side?

Arsenal boast a number of centre-backs you would categorise under dodgy. David Luiz certainly, Shkodran Mustafi has an error in him and although Sokratis is more reliable – he has been poor this campaign.

Adding Lovren to that list would hardly improve their options, and with Mikel Arteta preferring a ball-playing centre-back, Lovren is hardly the answer. Indeed, he seems much more of a Jose Mourinho-type centre-back.

Strong, powerful in the air and experienced, Lovren could be Tottenham’s ideal replacement for Jan Vertonghen.
