Report: Tottenham agree swap deal for £73,000-a-week star, but there's a problem

Tottenham have an agreement with Sevilla for a swap deal involving Jules Kounde and Davinson Sanchez, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru made the claim during a live Twitch show where he discussed several of the big stories in world football.

Tottenham fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet, however. He has also claimed there is a sizeable stumbling block to overcome first.

Kounde is highly sought-after and landing him won’t come easy. Romano believes the player wants to play in the Champions League and is yet to agree to personal terms with Tottenham.

Are Crystal Palace Doomed Next Season?

It is thought that there is a strong chance of Kounde arriving in the Premier League before the window closes.

At 22, the France defender is one of European football’s top talented players. Last season he made 49 appearances in all competitions and was a regular in the Sevilla team.

Kounde has a £68 million release clause in his Sevilla contract. With Tottenham trying to include Sanchez in the deal, however, they’ll hope to pay less.

The youngster earns £73,000-a-week at Sevilla and in that sense, he’d prove quite affordable for Tottenham.

Future star: Tottenham should fight to persuade Kounde

The talented centre-back would be an ideal player for Spurs to sign during the transfer window.

Even if they’re not in the Champions League this season, they have shown in the past that they are capable of playing in the competitions.

During 2018/19 the club reached the final and that should at least make Kounde consider a switch to the club.

One thing he could expect at Tottenham is regular football. If he was to head somewhere else, say Manchester United or Chelsea, he might only be seen as a backup option.

As a result, heading to Tottenham makes perfect sense and if a deal could be struck, the club would be getting a real coup.
