Report: Top-flight club know Arsenal now want their 12-goal striker
Arsenal scouts have been gathering information on Raul de Tomas, with Spanish outlet AS reporting that Espanyol are aware that the Gunners want the striker.
Mikel Arteta’s men desperately need to bolster their options. They have gone four games without a goal in all competitions. And they have not had a striker find the back of the net since Boxing Day.
Dusan Vlahovic looks to be the top target. However, AS reports that the Gunners believe that putting a deal together for the Serbian is proving to be impossible. And with that, other names are on the radar.
Alexander Isak has been linked. But he is not the only La Liga striker Arsenal seemingly want.
AS reports that Arsenal have been scouting de Tomas regularly. They are yet to make an offer. He has a release clause of around £58.9 million.
AS adds that he has been wanted by the likes of Leeds, Leicester and West Ham.
Arsenal can hardly afford to let window close without striker signing amid de Tomas links
De Tomas has spent much of his career playing in the Spanish second division. He scored 23 goals at that level last season. And he has proved himself in La Liga this year.
Only Karim Benzema has bettered de Tomas’ tally of 12 league goals this season. His form prompted Luis Enrique to hand him a first call-up to the Spain squad back in November. He now has two caps under his belt.
Interestingly, while Arsenal have failed to score in their last four, de Tomas has struck in each of his last four appearances in La Liga. However, he was also sent off in the 4-1 defeat to Real Betis last week.
Much may depend on how much Espanyol want for de Tomas. His contract expires in 2026. So they may not feel under major pressure to let him go.
But with time running out in this window, Arsenal really need to step up their pursuit of a new striker.
